Orwell Challenge 2023

We are looking for individuals or teams to join the Orwell Challenge on 25th June 2023 and Walk or Run anywhere between 3 and 25 miles in aid of Lighthouse Women’s Aid.

Why support for Lighthouse?

• In Britain, a woman is assaulted by a current or former partner every 6 seconds.

• In Britain, a woman is killed by a violent partner or former partner every 3 days.

• Domestic Violence accounts for 25% of all reported crime.

• In households where domestic violence occurs, 50% of children are also being directly abused by the same person.

• In 90% of cases, children are in the same or next room during the violent incident.

• 1 in 5 teenage girls have been assaulted by a boyfriend and young women are more likely to experience sexual abuse than any other age group.

Joining as a team with friends, family or colleagues you could enjoy getting fit in the New Year. Start training walks/runs together and they could also be organised to end at a café, or even a pub! The challenge takes place in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, you couldn’t ask for much more of a scenic place to challenge yourself in.

Lighthouse will also have a team entering and if any individuals would like to join ‘Team Lighthouse’ on the day they would be more than welcome.

A Lighthouse T-shirt will also be provided to all entrants who sign up to support Lighthouse.

This is a great way to show your support for a local charity and also raise awareness of domestic abuse, if you sign up before the 28th February you will receive an early bird discount. To register visit www.orwellchallenge.co.uk

Once signed up you can then set up an online fundraising page via www.lighthousewa.org.uk and start getting those sponsors in.

For more information please contact Deb via deb@lighthousewa.org.uk or call 01473 220770.
