Job Title: Children’s Worker

Accountable to:  Services Manage

Location: Ipswich

Salary: £25,397 per annum (pro rata).

Hours: 30 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

General Responsibilities:

a)  To assist all Lighthouse Women’s Aid staff, Officers and Volunteers in maintaining good working relationships with other agencies and the public, in order to promote the work of the charity and increase financial support for the charity.

b)  To ensure that your attitude and behaviour remain professional and consistent with the expectations of Lighthouse Women’s Aid at all times.

c)  To ensure that your work is consistent with the policies and procedures of Lighthouse Women’s Aid.

 Main Duties:

1. To deliver courses for Women and their Children who have experienced Domestic Abuse. This will involve working alongside other staff. Also to deliver Escape the Trap for teenagers.

 2. To lead on the delivery of the courses, this will include working with the Service Manager to ensure that staffing is in place, promoting referrals, assessing referrals delivery and evaluating courses as well as looking for other opportunities. To ensure that the material is age appropriate and adapt the material to meet the needs of the clients.

 3. To complete 1-2-1 work with the children where it is deemed necessary using age-appropriate materials.

 4. To work with community settings, for example, schools, Family Hubs, community settings to ensure that there are safe spaces to deliver our work.

 5. To ensure that effective networking takes place to encourage referrals as well as knowing where to make onward referrals. 

 6. Working alongside our Refuge Children’s Worker within our refuge delivering group sessions to include an environmental theme.

 7. To ensure that the views of children are used to inform service delivery.

 8. To promote the work of Lighthouse Women’s Aid by responding to enquiries, contributing to a quarterly newsletter, and general awareness-raising of the work of the organisation.

 9.  To comply fully with LWA Safeguarding policies and procedures.

Working as a team member:

 10. To participate in six weekly support sessions with the Services Manager.

 11. To work as part of a team to ensure that clients get the best possible service.

 12. To ensure that all relevant issues are addressed and that information is shared as necessary, to provide a safe and seamless service and to keep Lighthouse Women’s Aid colleagues fully informed.

General Administrative support:

 13. To ensure that any programmes/ work is evaluated, and this contributes to the development of the service.

 14. To ensure all work is recorded as per guidelines.

 15. To design and produce posters, leaflets, handouts, training materials, in respect of services that are provided by the Children’s Worker and to publicise services that are available to be accessed as appropriate.

 16. To ensure that all enquiries to, and requests for information from, the Community Services Team can, before being responded to, be established as coming from an appropriate, and legitimate source.

 17. To ensure that confidentiality of information is maintained at all times, and that paperwork and computer access is kept secure and that any relevant information no longer required is either securely archived or suitably disposed of by shredding, without delay.

 18. Alongside the Service manager, ensure that any risk assessments are completed.

 19. Equality and Diversity. To be aware of any cultural/additional needs of service users and actively promote the provision and non- discriminatory practices by LWA in all areas of work.

20. To provide support and assistance in respect of any incident or accident involving an adult, child, or member of staff, during the course of work.  In the event of an accident, ensuring that details are recorded in the Accident Book and that the Services Manager is informed.

Other Duties:

21. To attend both internal and external meetings, representing Lighthouse Women’s Aid as required.

 22. To attend training as required.

 23. To carry out other tasks consistent with the nature of the post as you may be so directed by the Chief Executive.
