Lighthouse Women’s Aid: Support for Those Affected by Domestic Abuse

Based in Ipswich, Lighthouse Women’s Aid supports women across Suffolk who are experiencing or have experienced domestic abuse.

At our Women’s Centre, we provide advice appointments—either face-to-face or by phone for women in or recovering from abusive relationships. During these appointments, we make sure that you have the best possible support for your individual situation, including, helping connect you with other services.

We offer a variety of therapeutic and educational courses for both adults and children to support recovery and empowerment. Adult programmes include The Freedom Programme, Power to Change and The Voice.  These can be attended in person or online, and referrals can be made by individuals or professionals.

In addition, our regular "Empower Me" coffee mornings offer a welcoming space to connect with other survivors.

  • Your Safety Is Our Priority

We take the safety of you and your children very seriously. That’s why we work closely with other agencies to ensure you are fully supported and protected.

We want you to feel safe to speak openly with us. If we ever need to share information due to safety concerns, we will always explain what we’re doing, why we’re doing it, and who we’re sharing it with, so you’re never left in the dark.

  • When you first contact Lighthouse Women’s Aid, our priority is to ensure you receive the support that’s right for you. One of the first steps we offer is an Advice Appointment - a safe and confidential space where you can talk about the abuse you’ve experienced, whether it’s in the past or happening now.

If you are currently experiencing abuse, we may complete a Domestic Abuse, Stalking and Harassment (DASH) risk assessment with you. This helps us understand your situation and decide together on the most appropriate support, either through Lighthouse or in partnership with other agencies.

If the abuse is historic, this appointment is still an important opportunity to reflect on your experience and access any additional help you may need.

After your advice appointment there are opportunities to join our other services. We know that child contact can be problematic, and we offer dedicated sessions to help you navigate this. We can also refer you for free 30-minute legal advice and signpost you to housing or financial support if needed.

During the appointment, we’ll also explore ongoing support options. We offer a range of free therapeutic programmes such as the Freedom Programme, The Voice and Power to Change, designed to help you rebuild confidence and regain control.

“It has highlighted warning signs for future relationships and allowed me to talk about my experience and confide with people I trust about my experience which I was not able to do before this programme.”

“I think I would have really struggled emotionally if Lighthouse Women’s Centre did not exist. I was desperate for help, I believe that Lighthouse Women’s Centre provides a vital service for abused women in this area.”
